52.21.16 Start Recording

Starts recording of a logfile. A Start Recording activity must be paired with a "Stop Recording" activity that concludes the recording and closes the logfile.

Equipment property: Select which devices to include in the recording. By default all devices (EQs) are selected.

Note that positioning data from the currently preferred GPS, if one exists, will be included in the logfile even if the GPS EQ is not selected here. If the currently preferred GPS is one built into another device such as a scanner, data from that device will also be unconditionally included. To avoid the latter, use a stand-alone GPS.

Prefix property: You can add a descriptive prefix to the default logfile name. The following characters are ignored if entered in this field:  \  /  :  *  ?  '  <  >  |

Note: Start Recording activities in different branches of a "Parallel" activity must not have the same logfile prefix.

Directory property: The directory where logfiles produced by the script will be stored.

Storage type property: Select the amount of data recorded to the logfile by checking either Raw, Refined or both data streams. See section "Storage type" for further information.

Buffer length property: Length in seconds of buffered content prepended to the logfile. Min.: 0 s. Max.: 40 s. Default: 0 s (Note: This is different from manual recording). See section "Buffering in Connection with Logfile Recording" for further information.

52.21.16.1. GPS Time Synchronization

52.21.16.2. Device Time Synchronization

The Start recording activity synchronizes the time and date of all equipments selected in the activity properties with the PCs clock before starting the recording. This gives all devices the same time (within a margin of 1/10 of a second) before beginning the test.

If Time Synchronization Mode is set to At Start Recording the PC clock will be synchronized with the GPS clock before the recording begins. See section "Advanced Functions in the TEMS Investigation Launcher" for more information.

Note: The Automatic date & time, and Automatic time zone settings on all devices must be disabled for Time Synchronization to be performed. The device time settings can be found in the Android Settings Menu > Date & time.
